Nakornthon Hospital is aware that environmental protection starts with oneself before others and therefore it has resorted to various systems and materials that are environmental-friendly and energy-saving. The hospital also joins the public sector in the effort to protect the environment as follows

  1. Procurement Policy. The hospital would choose products from local producers, whenever feasible, to economize on the consumption of transportation fuel. It also chooses materials and equipments that are energy-saving --from their manufacturing process to their application.
  2. Waste Water Treatment. The hospital uses sedimentation tanks in its most advanced system of wastewater treatment in the community. Some of the treated water is pumped up into the air as man-made spring in the pond in front of the hospital to speed up the evaporation process, while some is used to water the garden.
  3. Water-Saving Measure. Fifty water-saving taps are installed in 2008 which reduce the amount of water consumption by five times, while 100 more were installed in 2009.
  4. Solar Water-Heating System. Solar power can increase the water temperature up to a certain level, which dramatically reduces electricity consumption.
  5. Energy-saving Air-Conditioning System. By adopting the Variable Speed Drive for the air-conditioning system, which uses lower speed at night, a large amount of energy is saved.
  6. Avoidance of Polyurethane Foam Use. Instead of polyurethane foam, bio-degradable materials are used in the hospital canteen.
  7. Recycling Whenever Possible. Recycling is the key. Except in cases involving documents containing the patient's confidential information, all document paper will be used on both sides. Garbage separation system is adopted with the aim for recycling. Assessment and analysis are carried out in the constant effort to reduce waste materials.
  8. Power Consumption. Every year the hospital will analyze and review its energy consumption statistics and seeks new, innovative methods and practices to save more energy.
  9. Mangrove Forest Restoration. The hospital is located in Bangkhuntian District, which is near the sea. It therefore participates in the government's effort to preserve and restore the mangrove forest.
